Housewarming at the Unity on Park
Mary Lou’s initial vision for Wellspring included a place where her daughter Emily and her friends could grow, learn, and live their lives in community through a vibrant day program, work opportunities, and residential care and housing solutions. Now, 16 years later, Wellspring is closer than ever to making her initial vision a reality.
With construction under way, our community gathered on April 16th for a housewarming event. Almquist Construction joined us for dancing, socializing, and community during Morning Huddle. They shared a bit about themselves, the project, and spent time getting to know members of our community.
The housewarming continued with the Douglas County Housing Partnership as we covered the walls with notes and paintings of well wishes, hopes, and dreams for the future. Some of the notes included…
These notes and paintings will be engrained into the bones of the Unity as the construction company will dry wall over them.
Members of the Almquist construction team were very impacted by the whole experience, sharing it is has motivated them to get the project done with excellence. This housewarming event stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, positivity, and shared purpose. As Unity on Park continues to evolve, may it serve as a beacon of hope and unity for all who call it home.

We find profound inspiration in the network of individuals and organizations dedicated to public good, and supporting Wellspring Community is a privilege we cherish. Our employee-owners, through their collective efforts, generously contributed $28,000 to this commendable cause. However, the true highlight for us was the invaluable time spent alongside the remarkable individuals of Wellspring Community, the STARS who shine brightly in our hearts.
Suncoast STARS
Suncoast STARS is a new Florida non-profit started by Bob and Mary Lou Fenton. As many of you know, Bob and Mary Lou, along with their daughter Emily, moved to Sarasota, Florida in 2021. Seeing the need for a program like Wellspring in their local community led them to once again step out in faith and launch Suncoast STARS. Wellspring is honored to be a part of Suncoast STARS story and is thrilled to see more adults with I/DD being loved and enriched through this ministry.
