I Have Kindness in Me, and I am Lovable
Carly's Story
September is an exciting month for Carly because, on the 12th of this month, she celebrated 7 years with Wellspring. Her journey at Wellspring began when she first met Mary Lou and toured the program in August 2016 and then started attending the program the following month. Not only does Carly have a fantastic memory; but she is kind, organized, and hard-working. These are strengths that she leans into in all parts of her life; with family, friends, and here at Wellspring.
Art and crafting are specialties of Carly’s, she loves to color and to draw. In fact, she uses her skills to make and send cards to her family and calls them “CarlyBCards.” Family is very important to Carly and these cards help Carly to stay connected to her family members who live out of state.
Carly participates in programming both in-person and online, works as a barista at the Collective, is the Secretary of the Leadership Team for the STARS Cooperative, and is a newly elected member of the STARS Leadership Team at Wellspring. Carly’s go-getter attitude, perspective, and willingness to help others enriches Wellspring and makes a tremendous impact in the lives of others. When asked what it feels like being a part of Wellspring, Carly shared “It feels great because I am an independent woman with amazing skills. I make my own decisions and choose my own classes.”
When Carly sings and listens to music, it makes her think about her grandpa who was a singer. She wants to carry on his legacy and be the next generation. Ultimately, her goal in life is to be a dancer. She is currently working on a solo with Starstruck Academy dancing to “You Drive Me Crazy” by Britney Spears. She would also like all of the people reading this to know, “I want to say that I am a hard worker. I am a social butterfly because I like to talk a lot and make other people feel better. I have kindness in me, and I am lovable.”

What brought you to Wellspring?
I came to Wellspring because I was looking for something bigger for my life, I wanted to make a difference in my community, and I have always had a passion for teaching, but didn’t want to work with children any longer.
What is your favorite holiday?
My favorite holiday is Halloween. I love being able to dress up and the excitement it brings! But Christmas is also very magical.

Favorite vacation spot?
I love all of Italy but Lake Garda is a special place! It’s beautiful there – I love being by the water, the scenery is pretty, they have the best ice cream and Aperol Spritz all day long and it’s close to cities like Verona and Venice. It has been a family tradition to go there since I was a teenager and we still try to get together there every year or at least every other, I truly cherish this quality time spent with my mom and siblings.
What is your favorite holiday?
My birthday! I usually like to celebrate for several days. In my opinion everyone deserves a special day and especially getting older birthdays are even more reason to celebrate! I love the special birthday box and decorations we have at the Collective to make sure everyone gets the attention they deserve on their big day.. As for a “real” holiday, I love Christmas, especially when I get to celebrate with my family in Germany!
