Funds Raised: $7,300,000
For too long, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) have been marginalized in their communities, facing exclusion both unintentionally and, in some cases, by design. Without access to services, person-centered supports, and meaningful employment and community involvement, adults with I/DD are at increased risk of:
- Social isolation, which negatively impacts mental health and quality of life
- Unemployment, leading to financial instability and reduced independence
- Reduce communication skills, limiting self-advocacy and social connections
- Higher mortality rates, and poorer health outcomes, stemming from limited access to quality healthcare and wellness resources
Every dollar raised between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2027 will contribute to the vision of building a lasting and inclusive future for all members of Wellspring. Together, we can unlock the potential within each individual we serve and create an enduring impact for our entire community.
The exclusion of individuals with I/DD isn’t just a disservice to them; it’s a missed opportunity for entire communities. When people with disabilities are not fully included, everyone misses out on valuable perspectives, creativity, and talents that could enrich every area of society.
An estimated 20,000 individuals with I/DD in Colorado are currently living with caregivers over the age of 60, placing them at serious risk of homelessness or displacement as these caregivers age.
(Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, 2022)
The life expectancy gap for people with disabilities remains stark: adults with I/DD live, on average, 14 years fewer than their non-disabled peers.
(NIH, Kuper, H., et al., 2024)
With a waitlist of over 130 individuals seeking our day and residential services, we face a pressing need for more space to serve those eager to join our programs. This expansion will allow Wellspring to meet the demand for services, ensuring current and future participants access to community, personal growth, meaningful work, and supportive housing.
The planned expansion will provide Wellspring with:
- Dignified, accessible spaces for program participants
- Enhanced service accessibility and the opportunity to achieve individual goals
- Growth in life skills, social connections, and emotional well-being
- A tenfold increase in dedicated program space
- An onsite store offering additional employment opportunities
- A covered drop-off area for convenient access
- Expanded office space for our staff
- A redesigned bakery to accommodate more participants and increase production capacity
- A consolidated and expanded cooperative workspace for enhanced work opportunities
A Story of hope
At Wellspring, Zachary is learning new skills, engaging in work opportunities, having adventures, and forming meaningful friendships for the first time since he was a child. He is a loyal friend, often checking in with others through smiles, hugs, or pats on the head. His contagious laughter brings joy to everyone around him.
Cathy, Zachary’s mom, like many caregivers of adults with I/DD, worries about her son’s future and where he will go when she and her husband can no longer care for him. However, Wellspring Housing and potential residential services for Zachary provide her family with newfound hope and peace. “We’re never leaving Colorado. This is it. We’re staying here; we’re retiring here and it’s because of Wellspring.”
This project will allow Wellspring to offer...
At Wellspring, we envision a world where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are embraced as vital members of our communities. We strive to build a future where they have abundant access to meaningful work, dignified housing, and opportunities for personal growth—all within supportive, inclusive environments. Our goal is for each individual to have a place where they are truly known, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Wellspring means “a source of continual supply.” Since our founding, we have sought to be this steady, nurturing source for adults with I/DD. Our vision has always been to create an environment where individuals continue to grow, engage in meaningful work, and live fulfilling lives within a community that supports them.
This growth will enable us to increase our capacity and program’s reach by 50% through the expansion of day programming and work opportunities, ensuring that more adults with I/DD experience a life of purpose, connection, and community.
