Unlocking Potential

Wellspring Community Campaign

The Need for Inclusion

For too long, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) have been marginalized in our communities, facing exclusion both unintentionally and, in some cases, by design. Without access to services, person-centered supports, meaningful employment and community involvement, adults with I/DD are at increased risk of:

Social Isolation, which negatively impacts mental health and quality of life,

Unemployment, leading to financial instability and reduced independence,

Reduced communication skills, limiting self-advocacy and social connections,

Higher mortality rates and poorer health outcomes, stemming from limited access to quality healthcare and wellness resources

"Perhaps disability does not lead to loneliness, but instead it is the social structures that cause feelings of not belonging, and these lead to the perception of loneliness."

(Gómez-Zúñiga B, Pousada M, Armayones M. Loneliness and disability: A systematic review of loneliness conceptualizationand intervention strategies)

Broader Impact on Communities

The exclusion of individuals with I/DD isn’t just a disservice to them; it’s a missed opportunity for entire communities. When people with disabilities are not fully included we all miss out on valuable perspectives, creativity, and talents that could enrich every area of society.

Communities lose out on potential co-workers, volunteers, mentors, and friends who offer unique insights and ways of navigating the world, enriching the diversity that benefits us all (Administration for Community Living, 2022).

An estimated 20,000 individuals with I/DD in Colorado are living with caregivers over the age of 60, placing them at serious risk of homelessness or displacement as these caregivers age (Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, 2022).

The life expectancy gap for people with disabilities remains stark: adults with I/DD live, on average, 14 years fewer than their non-disabled peers (NIH, Kuper,H., et al., 2024).

Our Response

Wellspring’s mission is to create a community where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are empowered to live full, productive, and satisfying lives in a God-centered environment. We accomplish our mission through a robust day program, meaningful work opportunities and innovative residential services.

Wellspring is a unique community that honors and celebrates the inherent dignity and potential of adults with I/DD. We believe every individual holds intrinsic worth and purpose, created in the image of God. This understanding shapes a community founded on grace, respect, and dignity, where accessibility and acceptance of neurodiversity and disabilities are essential.

We know that adults with I/DD not only thrive within Wellspring but also enrich the broader community. By fostering a culture of mutual respect and service, we create a space where everyone experiences growth and transformation through shared purpose and compassion. Wellspring exists as a community distinct from the rest of the world—where love, not status or wealth, is the only measure that matters. Here, every person’s unique contributions are valued, and our greatest currency is love.

Zachary's Story

"The road we took to get here was worth it."

- Cathy Roescher (Zachary's mom)

At Wellspring, Zachary is learning new skills, engaging in work opportunities, having adventures, and forming meaningful friendships for the first time since he was a child. He is a loyal friend, often checking in with others through smiles, hugs, or pats on the head. His contagious laughter brings joy to everyone around him.

Cathy, Zachary’s mom, like many care givers of adults with I/DD, worries about her son’s future and where he will go when she and her husband can no longer care for him. However,Wellspring Housing and potential residential services for Zachary provide her family with new found hope and peace. “We’re never leaving Colorado. This is it. We’re staying here; we’re retiring here and it’s because of Wellspring.”

Our Vision

Our goal is for each individual to have a place where they are truly known, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
