Celebrating Independence & Opportunity The Importance of Meaningful Work

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities and highlight the importance of accessible work. At Wellspring, meaningful work is a cornerstone of our services; empowering people with I/DD develop skills, earn money, and take pride in their work.

Through our work opportunities, people can explore different pathways to meaningful work.

The Collective recently celebrated five years of serving the community! As our largest staff department, it brings together a team committed to creating a welcoming and cozy environment. What Carl enjoys most about the Collective is, “the camaraderie that I am able to build with my coworkers and peers.” Others, like Zach enjoys experiences with customers saying, “I like showing people how to order and I like having regular customers who know us by name.”

Through The Cooperative, program members are also owners who help make decisions about products created in the Art Studio, Bakery, and Print Shop. Through monthly dividend checks, members benefit directly from the sales of the products they help create. For Neomi, she enjoys, "Making ornaments! I try and save up my money to go to concerts and for Christmas presents.”

At Wellspring, meaningful work makes connection, independence, creativity, and contribution possible. You can support these opportunities too! Visit the Collective to enjoy a coffee made with love by one of our baristas, and shop member-made goods from The Cooperative. Every visit is an opportunity to support meaningful work.
