Our Story
Wellspring Community was founded in 2008 by a mother who sought an abundant life for her daughter with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Starting with a small group baking in her kitchen, Wellspring has grown to serve over 130 people across 7 counties through day programming, work opportunities, and residential services.
Our mission is grounded in the belief that true community includes everyone. When people of all abilities live, work, and thrive together, communities flourish.
Our Mission
To create a community where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are empowered to live full, productive, and satisfying lives in a God-centered environment.
Dignity
We recognize each person has inherent worth, value, and divine purpose. Therefore, we will champion and preserve one another’s dignity throughout life.
Grace
We embrace ourselves and others for who we have been, who we are and who we will become by replacing judgement and condemnation with love and mercy.
Respect
We show respect by honoring and appreciating others. Our respect for one another necessitates that we foster greater accessibility for neurodiversity and disabilities.
Integrity
We strive to be honest and consistent in what we think, say and do.
Service
Adults with I/DD possess an incredible capacity to enrich the broader community. We are fostering a community where mutual transformation happens as we all serve one another and give of ourselves.
Good Stewardship
We are responsible and strategic with the resources we have been given and use them wisely.

Mary Lou Fenton is the founder of Wellspring. It was her love for her children, her desire to give her youngest daughter with disabilities the best life possible, her faith in God, and her husband’s constant encouragement that inspired her to start Wellspring. Her background involves being a social worker, working with homebound elderly, homeless, and unwed mothers. Mary Lou loves to travel, especially to places she’s never been. Some of the places on her bucket list include Alaska, Australia and Israel. On the weekends, you’ll find Mary Lou hanging out with her family and friends and riding her bike.
