Every day at Wellspring we experience the joy and transformation that is possible with inclusion. This I/DD Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the voices and contributions of our community, in our Online Program we’re experiencing this in a whole new way.
Members of the Online Advisory Board have been stepping into the role of teacher. Over the past few months, they’ve created class content, designed slide decks, and practiced leading. Each person has shared ideas, received feedback, and learned new skills every step of the way.
Carly, a member of the Online Advisory Board will be teaching a class called, “Let’s Move it Move It.” Dancing is her passion and she is excited to share it with others. She’s learned how to use PowerPoint and takes pride in what she has accomplished, “I thought it would be hard, but it’s easy for me!” For Carly, teaching classes has been very meaningful, “It gives me independence and It feels good to be a Zoom dance teacher.”
Carly and the other members of the Online Advisory Board are strengthening their skills, gaining confidence, supporting one another, and taking pride in leadership. Their classes highlight the beauty, creativity, and talent in the I/DD community celebrating the uniqueness of each person.
As we celebrate I/DD Awareness Month, I’m reminded why Wellspring exists and why our work matters so deeply. Everyday confidence grows, friendships form, and purpose takes root, not only for those engaged in our programs, but for families who find renewed hope, support and peace of mind knowing that their loved one is known and valued. At the same time, more than 180 people remain on our waitlist, each representing a story, a dream, and a family waiting for opportunity. Our new space will help us to begin addressing our waitlist and expand access to the meaningful programs so many are seeking. This month, we celebrate I/DD Awareness Month, and I am truly honored to walk alongside such an incredible community.
Loving Living Local
Wellspring in the News
Earlier this month, Reece (Program Member) and Pete (Program Support & Mentor) joined Fox 21 Studios on Loving Living Local to share their experiences at Wellspring and the joy found in each day. Watch the full feature to hear their story.

Abigail met with Senator John Hickenlooper, Senator Michael Bennet, staffers from Jason Crowe’s and Lauren Boebert’s offices, as well as going to the Congressional Briefing. She shared her personal stories of participating in research projects at the Crnic Institute with Dr. Espinosa and shared talking points about why the DeOndre Dixon INCLUDE Project Act is so important.
Each month, members of our program are nominated for an award recognizing their hard work, kindness, and participation at Wellspring.
Alyssa is an amazing artist and a hard worker. She is always willing to try the hard things and see the job through to the end. Her work ethic, combined with her friendly attitude and ready smile, make her a delight to have in Art Studio! Thank you, Alyssa, for your kindness and can-do spirit!
Lauryn’s personality exudes warmth and she naturally makes connections wherever she goes. When a new volunteer joined her lunchroom, she stepped right in, offering introductions and asking thoughtful, genuine questions to help them feel truly welcomed.
Each month, a different Wellspring class will share a wish, wisdom, or something to brighten your day. This month’s contribution comes from our Leadership Class where participants learn what it means to be a good leader and lend their voice and perspective to shape our program.
What does it mean to be a good leader?
- “Being a leader is a huge responsibility.”
- “You have to have good communication skills and use teamwork.”
- “Being a leader means being a good friend and being kind to everyone.”
- “Sometimes being a leader, you have to make hard choices, and that’s important. “
